1 Year at 1605 York
Pros
This building is owned by an individual rather than a company, so the owner is really accommodating to students and people who dread getting guarantors. The owner also owns the laundromat, which is adjacent to the building entrance, and their cleaning staff also tidy up the garbage in the main hallway and sweep the stairs/floors on occasion. The cleaning staff and employees at the laundromat are very friendly. We paid rent individually via Venmo directly to the owner, and he had a handy man that would come over to fix minor problems. Similar to railroad style apartments, the two farthest bedrooms in this place get great natural lighting as one faces York Ave while the other faces the back of the buildings.
Cons
This is not a luxury building nor should there be an expectation as such. The building is very old and loud when walking on its wood floors. There were many “landlord special” areas where something that needed fixing was just painted over. The interior of the apartment has poor ventilation and no sunlight, so that needs to be an adjustment as one of the bedrooms has a faux window to outside, which in reality is a window to the inner shoot of the building that is closed off from outside. The bedroom that faces York Ave gets extremely cold in the winter as the breeze from the open street will seep through the window. The heating in this building is not sufficient to keep this room warm.
Advice to the owners
A great landlord, but can make additional efforts in assuring the tenants are warm and taken care of.
