Charming Apts but Need Work
Former Tenant
Pros:
Railroad style apartments so it is very spacious with loads of storage space. High Ceilings Lots of Windows. (Sunken windows so that provides extra seating and potential display storage) Apartment does well keeping heat out in the summer. Definitely much cooler than outside on a really hot day. A 7 minute walk from the 2/3 A/C/B/D trains. Lots of restaurants around. Landlord is very responsive and has been very understanding with Covid and rent.
Cons:
Windows are not at all insulated well. In the wintertime you can feel the breeze entering through your closed windows like you are standing right outside. I put plastic on the windows to help but they almost always blow off because the amount of wind seeping in through the window is that excessive. Even when the heat is on you still need to put on a secondary heater because the draft is so bad. Bathroom has no ventilation so prepare for paint to crack and mildew to develop on the ceiling/wall. We try not to take too many hot showers so it hasn’t gotten as bad as it could. There is also a fly problem in the summer. It’s not that bad but just slightly annoying to have to deal with. There is also an ongoing problem with the keyhole to the entrance. Sometimes it works, other times you might get so frustrated trying to work the key you ring the buzzer until someone else lets you into your own building.
Advice to owner:
Insulate your windows. People are paying rent and should not be freezing in the wintertime. And you need to get the door looked at. It is not safe to be outside at night struggling to get into your building. That can lead to danger and if you are not White, people might think you are trying to break into your own building.
