Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews of 522 West 161 Street highlight significant cleanliness and safety concerns, including unclean and run-down common areas, presence of squatters, and security issues such as package theft and a non-locking front door. Noise disturbances and unpleasant odors in hallways add to the discomfort. While the building benefits from a convenient location near transit and grocery stores, management is frequently criticized for poor responsiveness and inadequate maintenance, with heating and hot water issues during winter months. Although some units are renovated, the overall environment and management shortcomings make it a challenging living experience for many residents.

Unclean Neighbors, Bad Management
Former Tenant
Pros:
Rarely any water issues.
Cons:
I don't ship my deliveries to my apartment because there is a history of it getting stolen. Neighbors leave garbage outside for a long period of time and the halls start to smell.
Advice to owner:
Be responsive

Disgusting
Former Tenant
Pros:
I love our actual unit, it’s renovated and it’s cute. There’s a super, the exterminator comes and you don’t have to pay unless you needed something huge from them.
Cons:
It’s dirty. The building looks run down, there are homeless/addicts sleeping in the hallways and the stairs. The front door to the public doesn’t lock fully. People steal packages and write on the walls in the hallway. People occasionally fight and yell. Someone defecated in front of our apartment door.
