Two Words: Tenement Building
Former Tenant
Pros:
Rent is still low since we’ve been living here for 15+ years.
Convenient location.
That’s it.
Cons:
Building is incredibly old and outdated. Cooking gas was out for almost 2 years because the pipes were not properly maintained. Heating goes from too hot to nonexistent. Complete lack of security: front door is often left open so homeless people have come in from time to time. FOB sensors were installed on the front door at some point but do not function. Asking for repairs to be made is arduous and often unsuccessful, paired with a nasty attitude and being called “difficult” when pressing them for answers after being ignored for years.
Advice to owner:
Don’t own property if you don’t want to maintain it. Treat your tenants with respect, especially if they’ve been diligently paying rent for years (yes, even through the 2 years without cooking gas). And good luck finding tenants that are willing to pay $3,700/month to live in this ex-tenement that’s as nasty as the people who run it.
