Lipstick on a Pig!
Pros
Landmark property Interior garden Strong tenant association Neighbors with a lot of historical knowledge
Cons
A LOT of heat/hot water complaints from all buildings NO on-site Super for over a year Rat infestation Unresponsive management High turnover of apartments due to “lipstick on a pig”
Advice to the owners
Provide heat/hot water ALL winter Show more concern for your tenants than for getting that government money
The Dunbar
Pros
The courtyard is a real gem and the true highlight of the complex that makes up the Dunbar. The newly renovated apartments are very nice, small, but they did a good job with the renovations. Most neighbors are nice. Right next to the 3 train which is a huge plus, and only 4 blocks away from two large grocery stores
Cons
The management does nothing for their tenants unless it’s deemed an emergency. I cannot stress enough how horrible management is. The buildings are super old, therefore the walls are paper thin. You’ll feel like you’re sitting next to your downstairs neighbors when they scream at the video games their playing at 3 am, and you’ll believe that you’re upstairs neighbors could fall through the ceiling at any moment. Make sure you ask if your neighbors are allowed to smoke in their apartment, because the smoke will seep out into your non smoking apartment through the steam pipe that runs through units.
Advice to the owners
Get new management that actually listens, calls tenants back, and does more than just shrug their shoulders and say “there’s nothing we can do”.
