Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for 185 Avenue B emphasizes the building's excellent cleanliness, effective garbage management, and responsive staff, including a proactive superintendent. The location is praised for balancing proximity to lively East Village spots while avoiding chaos, with spacious apartments uncommon for the area. Many appreciate the quiet atmosphere and friendly neighbors. However, recurring heating issues and occasional noise from an in-building church have been noted. Some find the electronic key system unreliable, and the bike storage lacks true security. Despite minor drawbacks like small apartments and a lack of traditional ovens, most renters view it as a well-managed, safe living environment with attentive support.

Great building with a few issues

Pros

Really quiet and clean building. Location cannot be beaten, close enough to incredible EV areas without being in the chaos, but also not too far east to feel sketchy. Apartments are way bigger than average in EV. Super is pretty good about moving packages to a secure place, so there wasn't a problem with packages being stolen. Management is ok, they take care of the big stuff but small stuff can fall the wayside if you don't chase them. For NY, this probably falls on the "pro" category as a result.

Cons

Every month or two there's an issue with the heating system meaning no heat and cold showers. Wish I could say otherwise, but it keeps happening and residents keep complaining. There's a church in the same building and the noise level from their music is sometimes quite loud and disturbing, especially when it goes on most of the weekend. This may only affect certain floors and apartments, but I don't know this for sure. I stored a bike in the "secure" bike storage. Someone broke into the building and stole my bike by cutting it off with an angle grinder. Slightly scary, but maybe that's just EV and the only solution is a doorman, but that's not common in EV and would be really expensive. Bottom line is that it's not secure even though it's paid-for. Maybe it's just us, but the common rooftop spaces didn't seem like nice places to hang out.
