Review Summary for 488 Warren Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Tenant reviews for 488 Warren Street, Brooklyn, consistently praise the building's convenient location near multiple subway lines and a quiet neighborhood with decent parking options. However, overwhelmingly negative feedback centers on the landlord, described as vindictive, disrespectful, and unresponsive to maintenance requests. Problems with heating—specifically noisy, high-temperature radiators—and pest control issues, including frequent cockroach sightings, significantly impact residents' comfort. Garbage management is poorly handled, often causing unpleasant odors in common areas. Noise levels inside apartments are also a concern due to faulty equipment. Renters advise improved owner responsiveness, respectful tenant relations, and better property management to enhance the living experience.

NEVER RENT HERE - vindictive, righteous landlord w/ zero courtesy and empathy
Former Tenant
Pros:
Accessible location in a bylane
Cons:
The old landlord is one of the worst people I've ever met. She is vindictive and will talk behind your back to the other tenants. She always has a frown on her face and will snoop around to check if you're looking out the window. She looks into the trash and recycling bins every morning and will take out improperly sorted trash and block the entrance for all tenants of the building.

She will enter your apartment and comment on the way you organize things, how clean your kitchen is, saying things like, "That's not how I would keep this place. Don't come to me if there are roaches here." We had a dead roach on our floor in the first few days of our stay there, before we even had any food out.

She also won't fix things, e.g. a heater that is one of the loudest I've ever experienced in NYC. She turns up the heat super high, so it continually kicks on and stays banging for hours on end. It'll start nice and early in the morning to wake you up. She told us it's a new boiler and there was nothing she could do. It's basically inhabitable in the winters...

She also didn't fix our toilet handle because we were moving out of the house at the end of the month. "Why would we fix it?" is what she said.

To close, she made up a bunch of stuff in the final walkthrough (scotch tape on the window which was there before, stains in the wooden floor of the bedroom) and made everything into a huge drama, slamming cabinet doors, etc.

If you want a home that gives you peace of mind, definitely look elsewhere.
Advice to owner:
Learn to treat your tenants with some respect. Smile a bit, life is short.

Stay away from this obnoxious landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
Good location, walking distance from multiple subway lines. The rent is reasonable for the location and size of the units.
Cons:
The landlord is very disrespectful and difficult to deal with; makes living there very unpleasant. She doesn’t really fix any issues in the house, but rather shifts the blame on the tenants and is never open to a civil discussion. She starts yelling and becoming aggressive just to prove her point. It’s hard to reason with her.
The house has many issues, the most annoying being the radiator. It leaks all the time and is way too noisy. The temperature is also set very high. It feels like you are living inside a loud pressure cooker in the winters, with banging and hissing sounds all through the night. This sound is not the same as the ones you will hear in other old NYC apartments; it is very loud and very hot. It is not safe to live in such conditions.
Advice to owner:
Be kind, treat your tenants like they matter.
