Great building, good management
Pros
Really well kept and in a great location, it's a very quiet 2-story, 2-unit building on top of a coffeeshop. Landlord lives nearby and is responsive. Great natural light, not too loud for being on Smith St.
Cons
The joys of Smith St; living on top of the train is a bit noisy, and we've had mice 1 or 2 times by way of being so close to the station (though landlord caulked potential openings they were getting in through). Entire building is on a slant (as are most in the neighborhood). No buzzer system, packages often dropped off at laundromat next door.
New landlord is not what he seems.
Pros
I lived in the building for two years with two different landlords - them aside it's a great neighborhood to live in and the other tenant is usually very sweet.
Cons
It's like having a pre-war apartment with all of the downsides. The entire apartment is caving in, slanted and the appliances are old. The heat in the building is controlled by a slider in the hallway, so you and your neighbors have to work together on what temperature you all like (and it affects both apartments differently). There are on and off again roach and mouse problems throughout the building. Mail is all over the floor in the entrance when you walk in, no organization. Nowhere to put your garbage besides the street two days a week. The new landlord, Eric, was so sweet at first, very refreshing to have a nice guy own the building. Then when I moved out he refused to give me my security deposit, saying there was "cat excrement" all over the bathroom walls, even though there wasn't and he had been in that bathroom previously. He also had guys come repaint the interior of the building, and they did one coat and then never came back, months later it looks dirty and unfinished.
