Former Tenant
Pros:
Affordable, remodeled apartment
Cons:
Dirty stairwells and floors. Doors need repainting. Washers and dryer break often
Advice to owner:
Have someone professionally clean the common areas of the building and maintain. Replace all windows with upgraded casings and glass

Former Tenant
Pros:
Very quiet building and a peaceful neighborhood.
Cons:
The building is very old and has a lot of issues. The main ones being mice and bad heating. But the worst problem is the landlord and the super who refuse to take responsibility for many things. When I moved in I was told by the landlord I needed to call a locksmith if I wanted the lock changed. So I had to spend $300 to have the lock changed because I didn’t want any previous tenants to break in. There were mice in the winter and the super didn’t believe me because he “patched all the holes before moving in.” So I had to spend money on traps and poison and I had to get rid of them myself. The neighbors below us smoked a lot of cigarettes and weed. I called the landlord multiple times and he says he asked them to stop but they never did. He also didn’t believe because “they’re good people they don’t smoke weed!” So I had to move my bed to another part of the house, the least smelly part because the whole house constantly smelled like smoke and weed. Sometimes I would wake up at night coughing. I had to spend a lot of money on an air purifier. In the winter the heating is mediocre. I always had to have a space heater near me, which cost me a lot of electricity. I am moving after 1 year because I cannot continue living like this. Spending more rent on a nicer apartment would save more money in the long run as well as less stress.
Advice to owner:
Stop being a cheap jerk and care more about the hard-working people who don’t have as much as you and who just want a decent place to live.
