Review Summary for 612 President Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews of 612 President Street highlight a building with appealing architectural charm, spacious units, and friendly neighbors in a great location. However, significant issues overshadow these positives: tenants consistently report severe problems with heating, pest infestations (notably cockroaches and mice), poor garbage management, and water leaks. Many criticize the landlord for unresponsiveness and neglect, exacerbating maintenance delays and tenant discomfort. Noise levels are low due to friendly neighbors, but thin walls and building upkeep concerns remain. Prospective renters should be aware of management-related challenges, with multiple reviews advising a change in ownership or management to improve living conditions.

Never live here
Former Tenant
Pros:
nice neighbors, quiet street
Cons:
Sam Chopra (Samir Chopra) is a liar, a thief, and a bully. He continually lied to us about why he kept the apt many degrees below the legal temperature limit in winter ("in the olden days, people moved around their apartments more so there was just more air flow, making it warmer.") He said that the ceiling leaking rain into our bathroom was condensation from a shower, he said the water took forever to get warm because "no one else in the building is showering." He kept $1400 of our security deposit illegally and we're having to get a lawyer to help get it back. He said the mold on the ceiling from the leaking roof wasn't mold, it was just tar leaking in from the roof. He said if we reported anything to 311 and it incurred a fee for them, that fee would be added to our rent. Like I said: He's a liar, a thief, and a bully.
Also: walls and floors are paper thin. We could hear every sneeze, podcast, and orgasm of our neighbors. It was terrible.
The front door makes a huge slamming noise and shakes the whole apartment, even on higher floors. Woke me up every day. The front door doesn't lock automatically, so it was forever open. Also the door handle kept falling off so I kept a tiny screwdriver down there to screw it on myself.
Sam only starts and ends every lease on July 24th, meaning everything is terrible all the time. No one moves then. No apartments are ready then. It's cruel and unusual.
Advice to owner:
Stop being a terrible person

Cockroaches and no heat
Former Tenant
Pros:
I never have to deal with the absolute criminal of a landlord that Sam was again. Withholding heat from tenants? Really? Someone needs to investigate him. Threatened us tenants when we asked for heat and removal of the most insane roach infestation I have ever seen.
Cons:
Massive cockroach infestation. These bugs had wings that’s how big they were. Saw at least 1 a day. Sam didn’t care if we had proper heat as long as the checks were rolling in. In the peak of winter, my bedroom thermostat was reading 35° Fahrenheit. Was told there was nothing he could do about it. Are you crazy? Would you want your family sleeping in those conditions? He likes to rent to college kids because he thinks they won’t know how to stand up for themselves. BEWARE.
Advice to owner:
Do you care about the wellbeing of others? Or humanity? Sick.
