Review Summary for 36 Plaza St East
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews for 36 Plaza St East commend its prime location near parks, museums, and transit, along with spacious units and friendly neighbors. The building’s pre-war charm and helpful doorman staff are appreciated by many residents. However, issues such as pest infestations (notably roaches), inconsistent heating, poor water pressure, and occasional cleanliness problems are recurring concerns. Safety and building maintenance, including malfunctioning intercoms, unsecured entrances, and lingering scaffolding, have also been noted. Owner responsiveness is often described as slow or unhelpful, though the live-in superintendent receives praise. Prospective renters should weigh the excellent location against maintenance and management challenges.

Great location, poorly run building
Former Tenant
Pros:
This apartment is in a great location very close to the park, trains, and restaurants. Very easy to get into Manhattan as well.
Cons:
It is not properly managed. I found teeth in the washers when doing laundry (2025 for reference) and often see roaches dead and live in the laundry room and in the apartment. The people in the building also do a terrible job cleaning up after their pets and kids. There is mold in these washers, theres always pet hair, teeth!!, and I have had my sheets stained by something that was in the washer (who knows what it was). My advice is don't even use the laundry room. Save your money and go to a laundromat. Another piece of advice is if you live here make sure you are okay with pests and noise from outside. Also one of the doormen would stare at my friends and I in an inappropriate way. Just letting people know..
Advice to owner:
Help make the building cleaner please.

Safety is a big concern at this building.
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful pre-war building with gracious and large apartments on Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY.
Cons:
This rent stabilized building (with almost market rate priced apartments) has several safety issues namely: There is no lock on the front door giving easy access to non-residents, the interior lobby door mostly does not lock properly, the intercom system does not always work and the lobby is poorly lit. The door persons have no way to contact tenants to announce a visitor if the intercom system is malfunctioning. When the elevator is malfunctioning we have to rely on a door person to escort us on the service elevator. However, if the door person is on a break or it is between the hours of midnight to 10am (when there is no door person in attendance) tenants must utilize the stairs in this 12 story building. Nor would we have access to the laundry room in the basement. Building has numerous leaks in the roof, walls and skylights that are not properly addressed. The interior of the building needs a cohesive painting.
Advice to owner:
