Review Summary for 224 Sterling Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews for 224 Sterling Street reveal a building with a desirable location and friendly neighbors who foster a community atmosphere. Apartments offer good natural light and reasonable size. However, tenants consistently report poor garbage management, pest problems including rodents and roaches, and maintenance issues such as leaks and outdated kitchens and bathrooms. The landlord is often criticized for slow responsiveness to repair requests, delays in addressing urgent issues like power outages, and difficulty in returning security deposits. Overall, while the location and community are positives, ongoing building upkeep and landlord responsiveness need significant improvement to enhance resident satisfaction.

Pros:
The building itself is decent for the price and is extremely well located.
Cons:
Trash was taken out inconsistently, and the landlord dragged his feet doing anything.
Advice to owner:

Great Light & Neighbors, Unresponsive Landlord
Former Tenant
Pros:
The apartment had a decent layout and received wonderful natural light, which made it a pleasant space to live in. The neighbors in the building were very friendly – we even had a building group chat, which fostered a nice sense of community. The location is also great, situated in a desirable neighborhood.
Cons:
The biggest issue was the landlord's lack of responsiveness and slowness in handling repairs. We experienced multiple power outages during hot summer months that took days to resolve. Dealing with mice was also a problem. Inside the apartment, the kitchen felt quite outdated. The bathroom layout was awkward, had cracking tiles, and suffered from poor plumbing. Getting our security deposit back was extremely difficult; it took almost 6 months of constant chasing, and even then, it was returned in installments rather than in full.
Advice to owner:
Be significantly more responsive to tenants' maintenance requests and address urgent issues like power outages immediately. Invest in updating the kitchens and bathrooms, particularly fixing the plumbing and cracked tiles. Implement professional pest control measures. Crucially, adhere to legal timelines and procedures for returning security deposits in full to avoid causing extreme frustration and potential legal issues for former tenants. Improve communication overall.
