Avoid this building
Pros
The park being right on the block was a great plus. The apartment itself was spacious and had an old world charm - until we experienced what else it brought w/ that charm after moving in... Read below!
Cons
Horrible, absolutely awful maintenance. Drunk, unresponsive super who would yell at residents if asked to do their job. It's a father-son duo and the father who lives on the premises is always drunk. Son lives in Queens and doesn't know any maintenance work so between being unavailable and not having the skill set, it was a disaster. The building is infested with rats and roaches. We would find mice in traps we had set on a weekly basis. There was a leak in our kitchen and bathroom which led to a serious mold issue. The management (slumlords, more like!) were unresponsive and only responded (2 days later) AFTER the bathroom ceiling caved in and fell into the bathtub. At this point they got it fixed. But because they didn't fix the actual problem- absolutely useless and rude plumber who didn't do the work- the leak continued. Additionally, the manager is never directly available. You have to go through an email service to send a message and wait days for a response. They don't share phone #s with their tenants. It was a dehumanizing experience to interact with them. We left soon after the leaks and it was such a relief to get away from that place that we regretted not having left sooner. Nobody should have to pay money to live like that. It was a traumatic time, and one that we are lucky to have in the past.
Advice to the owners
Please stop treating your tenants like they're not human beings. Treat them with respect. And stop scamming people- share the management phone number so that people can actually reach out when there are problems. And please change the super. Hire someone decent and reliable.
