Landlord Deducted Big Fee (From Security Deposit) for Normal Wear and Tear
Pros
- Things inside the unit looked pretty new.
Cons
- The landlord took a long time to respond and fix issues in the apartment. - The power went out in every unit in the building because FDNY turned off the power. No news from management for HOURS despite me calling the landlord multiple times. - Porch pirate: ongoing issues with stolen packages. - Small space - Extremely small closet space - No elevators - 2 bedrooms: there were no windows in the living room and kitchen. - The flexed room I was in had doors that did not close properly, especially in the summer when things expand, they did not fully close. *** PLEASE READ: - The landlord deducted $750 from our security deposit. I told the landlord that painting and minor wall scuffs/stains are considered normal wear and tear under NY law and that he must provide evidence of damage requiring more than standard repainting. We also cleaned the apartment before moving out —$750 is an unreasonable amount.
