4th floor walk up in Bed-Stuy
Pros
The apartment itself is pretty nice. The ceilings were so tall and the rooms were decent sized for a 5 bedroom apartment. Each room had a closet and windows. The garbage was maintained very well. I liked the street, it was pretty quiet with a few random things from neighbors or loud cars. Nothing you can’t deal with. The water always ran well and the appliances never failed us. Very reliable. We had a toilet issue but someone came and fixed it the next day. The apartment was sprayed for bugs monthly. Say hi to Bug Man Pete for us. He was a gem. There is a coffee shop across the street a bakery, a few restaurants, and two really close deli’s.
Cons
Management was completely uncommunicative. We were told that there was a live in super, but we never met them or were even told a name. There was no number to call or anyone to speak to ever. If we had problems we had to submit requests or call an emergency line that rarely ever was answered. I have no idea who our landlord was or who we could directly contact, just an umbrella rental company with only first names ever signed in emails. It was sketchy. The apartment was kind of dirty, We tried to clean up the kitchen area but it was super stained and chipped.
Advice to the owners
Give your tenants contact information with someone’s full name so they feel like you care and are reachable. We felt completely ignored.
Overall NOT WORTH IT
Pros
No pros at all
Cons
1.) They offered me $825 in rent for a room that my roommate ended up getting for 700. 2.) Air filter was not replaced before move in. It had dust and mold. I have pictures of the filter. 3.) I was told that there was a rooftop by the person who was supposed to be helping me get the room and she lied. There is a huge sign that states rooftop is NOT TO BE USED. 4.) I was looking to find a place in the midst of Covid and used a virtual tour and they were filled with lies. 5.) I asked about breaking the lease and they suggested I do a sublease but my lease does not state I have to do anything of the sort.
Advice to the owners
Treat your tenants like you treat you would want to be treated.
