Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews for 159 Ellery Street, Brooklyn, NY highlight a mix of experiences. Tenants value the proximity to transit and supermarkets, central heating, and some renovated features. However, concerns include building cleanliness, water pressure issues, and thin walls leading to noise problems. There are mentions of slow owner responsiveness, pest issues, and unprofessional management. Some suggest improvements in building maintenance, better communication from owners, and addressing noise disturbances. While there are positive aspects like lovely renovated units and rooftop access, addressing cleanliness, noise insulation, and management responsiveness could significantly enhance tenant satisfaction.

New supers have made this a 5 star building… sorta
Former Tenant
Pros:
Quiet neighborhood, feels safe at night. Close to JMZ and G lines which is great for Brooklyn. Close to Food Bazaar and Mr Kiwi and a couple other supermarkets. Water gets SUPER hot. Central heating and air. GORGEOUS views from the right side apartments and enormous rooftop. Beautiful old building. Park below is being expanded.
Cons:
Water pressure isn’t great, and heat/AC units weren’t always reliable. The age of the building shows and it’s hard to get the place completely clean. We had some leaks & big water stains during storms — old super did nothing, new guys are trying to fix it. You have to walk into Bushwick (30ish mins) for any nightlife, and there’s not a ton of community because the neighborhood is mostly Hasidic Jewish, and they mostly keep to themselves. Lots of trash on the streets, but the building is well maintained for the most part
Advice to owner:
Back of the building has amazing views and great light
