Eh not so good
Pros
Fire department across the street for safety Prime area in Brooklyn
Cons
This is a rent-stabilized apartment that was overcharged. The building has a severe roach infestation. The exterminator’s visits were ineffective and appeared to only mask the problem rather than eliminate it. The super is frequently loud in the hallways, yelling and having conversations at all hours. More seriously, the building manager and super entered apartments and mostly mine without proper notice, non emergency or consent, repeatedly violating tenant privacy. I experienced ongoing harassment while living here, including intimidation and interference with my tenancy. I was a paying tenant and pregnant during this time. My belongings were removed from the apartment without my consent. Landlord wanted me out so they can destabilize the apartment ( bullying). The conditions and management practices made the apartment unlivable. This review reflects my direct experience as a tenant. These issues ultimately resulted in legal action, which was resolved in my favor. I left.
Advice to the owners
None they not gonna care
Lived here for 3 years
Pros
I liked that my apartment had a good amount of natural light and a washer and dryer.
Cons
I did research into my unit and found it had been illegally deregulated. The tenant before me had been there six years and was paying $600 dollars a month in rent. They raised my rent $400 - $500 dollars each year and by the last year I was there they wanted me to pay another $400 more, even after revoking roof access (that they said was open and an amenity when I moved in paying much less). I looked and saw they got the current tenant to pay closer to $2800. Right across the street from a fire station that is very active as well as a Temple on the corner that blares an air-raid sirens every Friday at sundown for Shabbat. Bedford ave in general is very loud at all hours of the day with traffic. There was also a constant, on-going issue with roaches and mice. Landlords made it very clear that I was there for them to make money and didn't care about anything else otherwise.
Advice to the owners
Treat your tenants like people with feelings as opposed to sources of income.
