Run down and shady
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location is desirable
Cons:
- Pests: Cockroaches are out of control throughout most of the building, with some units having mice and rats
- Old (and potentially illegal) electrical wiring: no outlets in the bathroom, kitchen doesn’t have necessary GFCI outlets, the entire unit (multiple bedrooms) is on 2 breakers. A cursory search online finds recent, unresolved violations for similar issues
- Paint (leaded) is actively coming off the walls and management refuses to do anything about it
- Building heat routinely does not come on in the winter
- Fixtures, cabinets, etc. are damaged, broken, or have water damage, and management won’t replace them until they completely fall apart
You’re better off holding out to find a better place to live where management is actually keeping the building up to code and not breaking laws to save a few bucks
Advice to owner:
with the amount you’ve started overcharging tenants for rent in the last few years, you should actually be putting money into the building to make it safe for all of your tenants

not the worst but not the best

Pros:
heat actually works, near lots of great restaurants
Cons:
no legitimate maintenance or repairmen, dismissive or unresponsive building manager, have seen mice, shotty renovations, dirty building, etc
