Great building, huge rooms, laundry in unit
Pros
small building with huge apartments - what's not to like? quiet neighbors, generally responsive landlord, very responsive maintenance, and below-market rent. great light, good appliances, every roommate gets their own bathroom!
Cons
bedrooms facing Nostrand get a lot of street noise - it's the only drawback of the huge beautiful windows.
Beware 197 Monroe!!!
Pros
Balcony attached to a bedroom, washer and dryer, dishwasher
Cons
Horrifying rat problem upon move in that was only addressed when we reported it to 311. Unbelievable noise from the fire station across the street and people outside the apartment at all hours of day/night. Shootings, stabbings, and robbings are frequent and common in the area. Additionally, the landlords were extremely difficult during move out. We had brokers calling us at all hours of the day to show people the unit with brokers and realtors showing up unannounced with prospective tenants. We were chastised when we would not accommodate their ridiculous requests with the landlords even threatening to take away our security deposit because they were “frustrated the unit was not rented yet” and “we made it so difficult for them”. The ventilation and lack of HVAC in the unit is extremely uncomfortable, as the layout of the unit is not conducive for optimal airflow. The air feels stuffy and claustrophobic year round.
