Review Summary for 55 Hope Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews of 55 Hope Street praise its prime Williamsburg location, clean and well-maintained loft-style units, spaciousness with high ceilings, and strong community environment with friendly neighbors. The rooftop and small gym receive positive mentions, as do good water pressure and pest control. However, management has been widely criticized since new ownership took over in 2022 for excessive rent hikes, unresponsiveness, and insensitive lease negotiations, driving some tenants away. Heating and noise levels vary, with complaints about central heat control and occasional loud neighbors or street noise. Despite these issues, many still recommend the building for its charm and accessibility to transit.

Beautiful building but iffy management
Former Tenant
Pros:
Location
Building is well constructed and a beautiful loft conversion from a former factory
Roof views are spectacular
Cons:
I moved out when I received my renewal lease and they had increased my rent by $1700 per month (2800 to 4500) which seemed like a pure money grab.
The building was bought by a new management company while I was living there and the new management were unpleasant to deal with, as was the longtime super (Ted) who was rude to me on several occasions.
