Building Overview
Building Report
Review Summary for 178 Skillman Avenue
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent tenant reviews for 178 Skillman Avenue in Brooklyn commend the property's cleanliness, efficient garbage management, reliable heating, good neighbors, and low noise levels. However, thin walls and occasional maintenance issues have been noted, such as water leaks and low water pressure. While some residents express satisfaction with pest control, others highlight slow owner responsiveness and management communication shortcomings. Suggestions include improved maintenance follow-up and better initial property inspections. Despite mixed feedback, the general consensus leans towards recommending the building, especially for its location and value.

It’s okay so far
Former Tenant
Pros:
No big pest problems
Cons:
Water leak from ceiling, still not fixing the issue
Over 3 years ago
Not the worst, definitely not the best
Former Tenant
Pros:
- “new” building
- laundry in basement
- close to train
Cons:
- property manager not the most responsive/prompt, doesn’t update on open maintenances requests, must follow up multiple times
- had several issues upon moving in.. no gas for 5 months (was not told there wouldn’t be gas until leases had been signed)
- ceiling leaks in the kitchen that went through two light fixtures
- water pressure is extremely low, had to put in a few requests for this
- water temp was not very warm
- ceiling leaks in bedroom multiple times
- holes in walls, scrapes and scratches on the floor, moldings/fixtures didn’t look completely finished for a new building, looked like a rushed job
- I think the worst was when the heat went out for a day during the huge snowstorm NYC had and the issue was not responded to promptly
- and the bottom two units of the building completely flooded during a rain storm.. so beware of living on the first floor
Advice to owner:
Proper walk through of the building and units prior to move-in, timelier responses to maintenance requests
