LL is a manipulative, lying nightmare—we smelled gas within a week of moving in, he comes over to check and tells us it's because we cook with cinnamon. Almost two years later, the super and plumber come in again and immediately identify a gas leak. The building has severe water damage that he refuses to address or fix. The basement level is infested with rats, most likely mold, and poisonous chemicals. The filth situation is so dire, not even the paid cleaner is willing to dispose of some of the disgusting debris the LL and super throw in front of the building. They "clean" the hallway and basement with something so pungent and harsh you can smell it as soon as you exit the L stop three blocks away, it will literally burn your nose hairs off. Whatever it is, its unsafe for humans to be breathing in 24/7. There is no central heating and no insulation so you will freeze to death if you're not huddled in one of the bedrooms during winter. The LL is also hell bent on never losing a single penny, so they will not be inspecting, cleaning, repairing, or painting your unit between the old and new tenants. Bottom line: LL and management have no regard or respect for other human life. They will let that building crumble to the ground and be condemned before they ensure a safe, habitable environment. Run for your life.

Cold and Ratty
Former Tenant
Pros:
Out apartment, 1L, has large bedrooms and large closets. Location to the L train is its main asset. Backyard is nice but you can really only be out there during the day because the rats are so bad.
Cons:
The apartment is so dark because the only windows are in the bedrooms. The main hallway is cleaned maybe twice a year. The rat situation is so bad the health inspector told us that the basement is beyond repair and the foundation basically needs to be replaced. Our backyard is essentially unusable due to rats.
The heat situation js egregious. There are two gas powered units in each bedroom that have a hard time keeping even just the bedrooms at a legal temperature. During coldest days, 20 degrees outside, our living room was around 48 degrees. The landlord gave us a space heater as a solve. Our January electric bill was almost 280 dollars and our gas bill was 400 and our apartment rarely reach legal temperatures.
The electricity is also an issue. There are no outlets in the living room. All power is lead from a power strip from behind the fridge. So to place a space heater in there was extremely dangerous.
Advice to owner:
Demolish it.
