Landlord will scream at you until you cry
Former Tenant
Pros:
It’s a beautiful building and apartment
Cons:
The landlord has harassed us throughout the entirety of the lease. He has entered the apartment without us being there numerous times under the guise of “oh I just needed to check or do this thing.” When we signed the lease he shared numerous horror stories of experiences with previous tenants and even showed us a lease that had the name and social security number of the previous tenant on it who ended the lease early. There is no privacy in this apartment—you can always hear him yelling at his wife in the basement and he consistently comments on the way we live our lives, and makes unnecessary judgements on our character. He has told me numerous times that I remind him of his son who died from an overdose when he was my age—and that should tell you enough. He has no boundaries. He just makes stuff up and will gaslight you to no end. He is a vindictive, miserly, senile man and we walked on eggshells for the entirety of our lease. We might go to court.
Advice to owner:
I hope you experience a day of peace at least once for the remainder of your life. You won’t be able to do so if you keep renting out the parlor level of this apartment.

Landlord is a nightmare
Former Tenant
Pros:
Beautiful apartment. Spacious. Convenient, good light.
Cons:
The landlord lives downstairs and will make your life a living nightmare. He will constantly harass, intimidate, and threaten you. He also abuses his poor wife so you will hear him constantly scream and berate her. He's just an overall awful human being. The apartment is pretty but after dealing with him you a cardboard box will make a better home. Avoid at all costs.
Advice to owner:
Stop abusing your tenants.

Living Under Surveillance and Above a Mad Man
Former Tenant
Pros:
Pretty building, lovely neighborhood
Cons:
I cannot overstate the mental burden one will bear each and every day living in this apartment with the landlord dwelling directly below. Each and every step you take, object you accidentally drop, dish you cook, guest you dare invite, or small decision you make as to how you want to live your life in your home will be subject to consistent scrutiny. The landlord/housemate will expect you to wear slippers in your home to reduce the noise he hears, but will yell and scream (either at his wife or his TV) at all hours of the day and night— every word is audible through the air ducts. Any dispute— and there will be many— will be met with fierce aggression. You will be talked at if not yelled at, you will live under the constant surveillance of the landlord’s camera array (at the front door and in the hallway in front of the apartment) by which evidence will be gathered to threaten you with eviction should he detect the slightest hint of transgression. Don’t take my word for it, go tour the place and don’t be seduced by the beauty of the space like I was— make sure you meet the landlord (rental agent will try to ensure this doesn’t happen) and you’ll understand.
Advice to owner:
Find a new profession or don’t purposely misrepresent your expectations in order to make money of off young people’s rent.
