Nice building as a renter
Pros
A co-op building that also has some grandfathered in rented apartments. Just wanted to counter the below review to say that Reggie is a fantastic super, has been very proactive about fixing things that were wrong with our apartment at move-in. Elevator building with laundry; Newport management more responsive than they are for other buildings of theirs, I think because it’s a co-op, though the super definitely more reliable. While there are sometimes mice on the basement and first floor I’ve never seen any bugs or rodents in our apartment on the 5th floor, and any time there have been sightings in basement/ground floor you can see traps put out pretty immediately. Huge living rooms and bedroom and great southern exposure; while other apartments have complained about heat my unit has always been great. Overall a solid apartment
Cons
Very small kitchens, no counter space
Noisy, mice-ridden, nasty super, evasive management
Pros
The units are relatively large.
Cons
The super Reginald is very hostile and nasty, tries to act like he's the tyrant of the building rather than its carer, bosses everyone around and threatens residents. There is a constant mice problem, floor is always full of mouse droppings and exterminators do nothing about it. Many residents have loud dogs and there's constant barking that can even be heard outside the building. When you escalate to management, they are evasive if they respond at all, and don't help.
Advice to the owners
The co-op board should get rid of Newport Management and Reginald. Hire a different exterminator service. Be more aggressive about noise issues in the building.
