Akelius at the Mohawk!
Former Tenant
Pros:
Akelius is super responsive to tenant repair and troubleshooting needs. A+ for communication and accessibility! Maintenance staff are enthusiastic, personable and professional.
Cons:
Gentrification has ruined diversity because rents are through the roof at market rates.
No new black tenants have moved in over the last 3 years since Akelius took over the Mohawk, because new rents are affordable only by the wealthy (who are all white.)
Akelius will not offer deals and will not negotiate with legacy tenants who are being priced out of the market.
Advice to owner:
Provide low income units to people of color and stop the persistent diversity crush and relentless “whitewashing” of Akelius buildings.
Offer infrastructure repairs to legacy tenants in rent stabilized apartments who need new flooring, bathroom installments, or closets, without charging more rent.
Ban the use of noisy, inefficient, diesel fume producing leaf blowers to clean a few leaves off the sidewalks, where a broom and dustpan would suffice.
The noise and air pollution are offensive and harmful.
