Something Shady's Going On
Pros
The supers (not necessarily the landlords) are very nice and helpful where they can be. The units themselves are not great, but in fine condition. Good sized rooms. Great neighborhood. Good train access.
Cons
They haven't filed their bedbug report because there are bedbugs. There have been bedbugs for at least 6 months, and have dragged their feet the entire time dealing with them, which has exasperated the issue. They will deal with major issues in the building with the cheapest, most bandaid issue possible and will be irritated that they have to do anything at all. It is consistently a struggle to get them to take action on anything from bedbugs to broken refrigerators to the water in the building being fully turned off for days on end. There is an ongoing and significant water issue in the building that crops up every few months, causing everything from inconsistent water temperature to disappearing water pressure to the water being fully turned off for days with no warning or arrangement. Tenants have had to take matters into their own hands, calling utility services and scheduling appointments for the land lords to have any urgency to fix it. There are not 3 units in the building, there are 4. One of them is likely an illegal apartment and the situation is shady. The neighbors are really loud, stomping around, playing guitar, and screaming at video games at all hours of the night. The apartment is next to a music venue/bar, but at the very least they play good music. They will not upkeep the apartment as far as painting, window sealing, or even replacing air filters goes. All-in-all, communication is incredibly challenging. Anytime there is a major maintenance issue that needs to be addressed, they love to threaten eviction- which obviously leads to a challenging working relationship. Maybe think twice.
Advice to the owners
Better communitication. Deal with issues early when tenants bring them up before they become significant.
