Could be better, but owners are lazy and mean
Pros
Great commute time to the city, the area is relatively quiet. Trees lining every block. Lovely West facing balcony. Affordable rent. 75% of the time, no issues.
Cons
Most of my cons have to do with the owner/property manager. Vera doesn't believe when something is wrong. The temperature is currently at 62 in the apt, our heat isn't working, and she insists everything is fine, she's checked with the other tenants, it isn't at a temp that requires heat (yes, it is, and they're legally obligated to provide heat through May 31)... yet hasn't asked someone to come check our apt, specifically. She NEVER checks to see if our apt is different from the other apts. If they would, they would see we aren't lying about when it's cold. It feels like she's just trying to get out of paying for expensive hot water based heat because warmer now (but still in the 40s at night), and if she can just push it out to mid-May, then there's an excuse to not fix it right now. There's a fight over the heat EVERY SINGLE year, because she doesn't like to turn it on and doesn't think there are issues with the very old baseboard system. When it works, it's great, we stay warm, but it's old and there are problems several times a year. I don't understand why that is so difficult to accept. The owners aren't willing to fix any real problems unless forced to. Our sink had issues, they didn't do anything until the whole thing needed to be replaced. They try cheap band-aid fixes. Vera is rude. She's never believed me when I said there's a problem and trust me, I do not want to bother her unless I have to. The building is old and poorly insulated.
