DO NOT RENT HERE
Pros
Proximity to necessities in the neighborhood. Good amount of natural light. Large closets. Large bathroom.
Cons
- The top of the windowsill frames drip water when it rains, and rot and mold due to the moisture. Owner refuses to fix. - Skylight drips moisture during winter and during heavy rains. Owner refuses to fix. - Owner refuses to turn on heat during the winter. - Very little (if any) insulation, causing apartment to be very hot in the summer, and freezing during the winter (when owner refuses to turn on heat). - Due to no heat in the winter and zero insulation in the building’s structure, condensation forms on all the windows, pools on the windowsills, and creates mold and mildew. Owner refuses to fix. - Mold/mildew in closets due to moisture and lack of insulation (we had to throw things out) - Asks tenants to put toilet waste into a trash bin in the bathroom instead of flushing toilets because owner does not want to pay for routine service of old pipes. No, not joking, this was an actual request from the owner. - Roaches, including ones that *fell from the light fixtures* in both the living room and bedroom - Speaking of light fixtures, the reason the roaches can get in there is because the fixtures are basically open holes to the exterior of the building with no insulation or paneling of any kind. You can feel freezing/hot drafts coming through them all year long. - Dirty old carpet - Shoddy-to-hazardous electric “work” - owner has rigged extension cords from first floor unit to provide electrics to two main outlets and the kitchen on the second floor. You can literally see these cords snaking through the closets and cabinets and electrical capacity can easily short out. - Ancient grout in bathroom and kitchen floors coming up, so that you track it everywhere in the apt. - Owner/landlord enters the unit without asking tenants and in general is very disrespectful to tenants.
Advice to the owners
