Great spacious apt. as long as you make zero noise
Pros
Huge space open concept living room/dining room and balcony. It's a super quiet cul-de-sac block so there's rarely any noise, even with the bedroom windows parallel to the highway.
Cons
Too may rules from the owners that live on the 1st floor. We rented the unit on the 2nd floor above the owner. The owner is a 94 year old woman with dementia and was always really sweet. She has 3 kids (2 sons & 1 daughter) that rotate watching/caring for her. The daughter & her husband are there the majority of the time, and that's where all the noise complaints came from. There are rules about locking up the front door and turning off hallway lights, so much so they placed printed out signs and taped to the hallway and front door. Also, you can't have delivery people ring your door bell, they also have a sign for this on the outside of the front door. The worse of it is they consistently complain about noise from us above. We moved in with 2 small kids, which they were aware of. We didn't hide the fact that we have small children. This is on top of the fact that the floors are super old and creaky and absorb no noise. We had a rug in the kids' room and a play mat in the living room to help with noise absorption as well. Mind you, the owner's grand daughter lived on the 3rd floor above us, also with 2 small kids, that were of course allowed to run around and make as much noise as they wanted. It didn't bother us, since it wasn't excessive to me, just small kids doing normal small kid things (running). Our kids were in bed by 8/9pm latest so there was never noise from our kids past that time. But the complaints became an every day occurrence so we decided to move out within 4 months just to be free of them. My oldest (5 yr old) was scared of them coming up to complain about her footsteps, she called it the "no fun" apt. cause you couldn't do anything fun there. We lived in an apt. that had a minor pest problem prior to this and that was more tolerable than the daily noise complaints at this apt. We're still not sure why they would rent to a family with small kids if noise is of the biggest concern to them. It was a nightmare living here even for the short period of 4 months.
Advice to the owners
Renovate your floors to absorb noise or don't rent to a family with small kids
