Worst Place to Rent
Pros
The only positives about this apartment are the location and accessibility. It is conveniently located near subway lines and bus routes, with easy access to buses and public transportation.
Cons
Unfortunately, beyond the location, my experience living here was overwhelmingly negative. The landlord showed a complete lack of respect for tenants and their boundaries. On more than one occasion, the landlord entered my apartment while no one was home, without notice or permission. This was extremely invasive, unsettling, and completely inappropriate. For years, basic necessities were neglected. There was no reliable heat or hot water, we were forced to rely on our own electric heater just to stay warm. There was little to no maintenance provided during our tenancy. The apartment had ongoing roach infestations and mice problems, large holes in the walls, and visible mold in both the bathtub and sink, creating unsafe and unhealthy living conditions. Communication with the landlord was hostile and intimidating. He was often aggressive, loud, and confrontational when addressing concerns. Because we shared the same entrance, these encounters felt even more invasive. There were multiple instances where he would wait inside his first-floor apartment for us to come home, only to immediately begin yelling or ranting at us. The situation escalated to an extremely uncomfortable level when the landlord claimed we were keeping him awake at night. At one point, he sent his wife upstairs to lie on our bed directly above his bedroom to “check” whether there was any noise coming from our apartment. I also recall a prolonged, nearly 45-minute screaming confrontation initiated by the landlord regarding my husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) being in the apartment “too often.” This behavior was hostile, unreasonable, and completely inappropriate. Overall, this was a stressful, invasive, and unhealthy living environment. I would strongly advise anyone considering renting here to think carefully, as no location convenience is worth the level of stress and mistreatment experienced in this apartment.
