The building is a dream... the owner is a nightmare!!!

Pros

The apartments present as high-end... until you're actually in them. Smoke and mirrors. They always have someone taking out the trash and mopping the floors. He's probably the best thing about them. But also the neighborhood is lovely!

Cons

The owner is not a good person. It doesn't matter how good of a tenant you are, the owner will try to take advantage of you financially. They will try to raise your rent an astronomical amount without actually fixing any of the problems in your apartment. There are always leaks in the building. The front vestibule has spots of black mold on the ceiling because they never actually fix the leaks that trickles down from the roof. Sometimes the front door doesn't lock, or sometimes you get locked in the building (their front door situation is a mess and a safety issue)--dealers choice. If you ask for something to be fixed that is within reason, they act like you are a burden. Anything nys law mandates as something a tenant is owed, such as a exterminations, a free paint job of the apartment every three years, they will NOT do it. Whatever cost they can offload to the tenant they will do such as actually putting in deadbolt locks on their apartment front doors (the locks on the apartment front doors a baby could break into). Their heating units sometimes don't work. AND if you ask for anything to be fixed you will be called annoying or irritating. The landlord will also try to get you on a june lease so he can kick you out a re-rent your unit for premium summer rates and he'll point blank tell you thats what he's doing. He will endanger his tenants and not care AT ALL!

Advice to the owners

Be a better landlord. Follow new york state law and treat your tenants with respect AND be professional

Nightmare landlord puts tenants in danger

Pros

Nice location and wonderful neighborhood

Cons

Building is literally crumbling and service workers refuse to do repairs bc the building is so dangerously out of code. I had a severe mold illness problem due to water constantly flooding and leaking through the walls. There's a makeshift balcony situation that has an AC unit pooling water on top of the unit's ceiling. Landlord made me go without AC replacement during the entire summer. He stalled on replacing the broken washer/dryer for 7 months until I threatened to withhold rent. Then he did an extremely scary DIY installation with the gas dryer (breaking off the valve). He stole my security deposit and overcharged for literally everything. He is happy to put all tenants in danger. Do not rent here

Advice to the owners

Sell the unit to someone willing to take care of tenants
