Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews for buildings managed by John McCarthy reveal a mixed experience with significant concerns. While some residents commend the cleanliness, location, and responsive maintenance teams, numerous tenants report severe issues with management, including poor heat regulation, inadequate noise insulation, and problems with pest control and garbage management. Many highlight a lack of responsiveness from ownership, making complaint resolution challenging. Some buildings have potential due to location and amenities, but ongoing issues with management practices greatly diminish the overall living experience. Prospective renters should weigh the positive aspects against the persistent drawbacks reported by current residents.

Avoid at all costs!!!!!

Pros

Nothing, the worst experience I’ve ever had

Cons

Terrible management company, all they care about is money. The apartments in this building are supposedly “renovated,” but in reality, they appear to be larger apartments that were divided into two units using makeshift partitions. From the sliding door in my bedroom, I could literally see into my neighbor’s apartment and see her walking around inside her home. The “walls” are not real walls, but thin wooden partitions that were apparently installed to separate the spaces. The apartments are incredibly small, and there is virtually no sound insulation. You can hear everything your neighbors do, talking on the phone, sneezing, watching TV, and normal everyday conversations. The entire setup felt extremely misleading and nothing like what you would expect from a properly renovated apartment. When I asked to leave because of these issues, management kept my security deposit. I would strongly recommend avoiding this building at all costs.

Advice to the owners

Fix the deceptive way you divided and renovated these apartments, and start treating your tenants like human beings.
