Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for William Shahin's buildings is mixed but leans toward challenges with management. While some appreciate spacious units, good layouts, and convenient locations with nearby amenities, others report significant issues including slow response times, pest infestations, and heating problems. Garbage management and noise levels vary by building, and several tenants express frustration with the owner's communication style and insistence on full rent during difficult circumstances. Residents advise improvements in maintenance, complaint resolution, and building upkeep. Prospective tenants should expect a building with potential but be prepared for occasional management shortcomings and delayed problem resolution.

William sucks as a landlord

Pros

-It’s a spacious apartment in a prime location where you have access to either the J or L -instacart and Whole Foods delivers

Cons

-William is a terrible landlord. He has a complex. He says there’s a “silent” owner but he’s registered as the owner. -my roommate had this noise in her bedroom that would keep her up at night and it took him MONTHS to resolve it. She still had to pay full rent despite William promising that he will cut down the rent Bc of the distress it was causing her. -we also had multiple mouse issues for the years (4) staying in that apartment. -he asked me clean the walls and the grounds of our floor when It was not our responsibility in a rude manner. -when we moved in Aug 2016, he took advantage of us and asked to pay a deposit of $8100 (when the monthly rent was $2700 for a 3 bed, 2 bath) -he expected me to pay full rent despite living in a pandemic and losing my job and having 2 of my roommates unexpectedly move out. -he forced me to sign the lease when I was not of sound mind. -he does not know any boundaries whatsoever. He likes to email, call and text outside of business hours -we didn’t have heat in the building like for a few weeks after it was supposed to be on and expected me to fix the problem. -he’s also the type of person who won’t claim he’s a racist but his actions says otherwise. And this is just a fraction of what he has done.

Advice to the owners

Advice? Go to hell. Transfer ownership rights to someone who actually knows how to manage a building in an ethical manner.

Bright Bushwick Apartment

Pros

It was very spacious with a huge kitchen and nice sized living room. Lots of light with big windows and skylights.

Cons

The heat didn’t work properly which resulted in higher electric bills running heat on the mini split unit.
