Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants renting from Michael Saperstein note the buildings are in desirable locations, with spacious units and friendly neighbors. Some buildings show signs of older construction with ongoing noise from nearby streets and frequent maintenance needs. While there are a few positive mentions of responsive superintendents, overall owner responsiveness is criticized for being slow or unhelpful, particularly with maintenance and pest control issues. Several tenants cite concerns about cleanliness in common areas, pest infestations, and disputes over rent increases or lease negotiations. Prospective renters should expect mixed management quality, with solid neighborhood benefits but challenges in timely and customer-focused landlord communication.

Great Soho Location

Pros

Phenomenal location with spacious high-ceiling artists lofts

Cons

Older building with constant construction and honking

Criminality in real estate

Pros

Location is good

Cons

After having litigated against the rent regulated tenants for decades most of the remaining holdovers have manned the barricades and most of the tenants are now market rate people who keep their mouths shut about anything that does not work because they know that the leases will not be renewed and wind up in court like almost every tenant still here has experienced. The landlord now consists of a family who gossip has it — stole the building from the former owner — but neither the DA nor the police nor HPD lifted a finger to control the criminality involved in the operation of the building.
