Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews of buildings managed by James Vest reveal mixed experiences. While many residents appreciate the spacious units, friendly neighbors, and effective heating, significant concerns arise regarding cleanliness, pest control, and management responsiveness. Common complaints include persistent cockroach issues, inadequate garbage management, and a lack of timely responses from the management team. Although some buildings are deemed well-maintained with good amenities, the overall sentiment suggests that improvements are needed in maintenance and pest control to enhance living conditions. Tenants recommend careful consideration of these factors before choosing to rent in these buildings.

Good neighbors, surprisingly quiet

Pros

Building was well maintained with a highly responsive super. The unit was shockingly quiet despite living just off Broadway. Neighbors were great and I felt watched over coming in and out of the building. Transit access is the best I've ever experienced in NYC. Close to so much greenspace, including riverside access. Unit was newly renovated when I moved in.

Cons

Landlord was only average level scummy, my unit was owned by a faceless company that bait and switched my security deposit to a broker fee at lease signing, knowing I was in no position to walk away at that point. Management company was non responsive to concerns, although this barely impacted living conditions since the super was incredible. Slight roach problem in the basement and lower floors. Occasional pest in the 5th floor unit.

Nice people and cozy apartments

Pros

The people are really nice and respectful, the building itself is pretty quiet. Nice apartments even tho a little pricey sometimes. Neighborhood is well connected.

Cons

The building is a little old and could use some renovations. The neighborhood is loud but except some muffled music we don’t really hear much from our apartment.
