Love living here

Pros

I’ve lived in this building since 2020 and have lived in NYC since 2010. This is by far one of my favorite apartments. Gotta say, Sal is one of the last ethical landlords in NYC. He always responds if there’s an issue (there rarely is) and he’s been very generous with not raising the rent too much. Most of the neighbors have also lived in their units for many years, so there’s certainly a community feel to this place. I hope to live here for many years to come until I can afford to buy my own place one day. The block isn’t very residential, which I find to be a plus since my partner has a car and we can always find easy street parking for date nights. I live alone and it’s a great studio for one person. If you’re looking to rent as a couple, these units are probably too tiny. Plenty of neighborhoody things to do on Myrtle Ave

Cons

The units in this building are ALL studio apartments, so they are pretty small. But by NYC standards, let’s just call them cozy. The lots on either side of the building are kind of annoying. On one side is a junkyard, which caught on fire last year (!!!) so is starting to get cleared out. On the other side is a truck company, so there’s some early morning noise of trucks starting that can be disruptive. But when I brought this up to Sal, he asked them to be mindful and I’ve definitely noticed a decrease in noise. Again, great landlord. There have been a few theft issues - shady people buzzing units pretending they’re delivery people or UPS and then stealing packages. But aside from the few times that’s happened, I feel safe here.

Advice to the owners

Clearing out some space in the basement to use for bicycle storage would be sooooo helpful for everyone I think. Lots of theft with bikes left out front and not much room to bring them inside.
