Pros:
The building is on a lovely, picturesque street in the West Village. Pretty quiet. Trash is always taken care of, but you do have to carry it down a flight of stairs and then back up. Can hear some noise from neighbors and the street, so not very quiet but definitely manageable.
Cons:
Jenny Watkins and Guive Balooch own 1A and, as a condo building, you’re renting directly from owners. Never met Guive, but Jenny is an absolute nightmare. She is discriminatory (making me, the white roommate with a larger savings account be the only one to pay the rent - this is illegal) and extremely cheap. She charged us $30 for a $5 IKEA stool at move out after she kept trying to use our apartment as her personal storage space. She also tried to illegally take a cleaning fee out of our security deposit. She refused to fix slow draining sinks and the lock on the front door. Buyer beware! Jenny will try do illegal things if she can figure out how to get money out if you, and she’ll drop in on you incessantly without much notice. I’ve never met a landlord that’s worse to work with than Jenny Watkins.
Advice to owner:
Do not work with Jenny Watkins. The super, Nasser, is wonderful though. And so is her real estate broker.
