Harassment from landlords
Pros
Close to the G, J, M and L. Longterm rent stabilized tenants are lovely and have great stories about the neighborhood
Cons
-During my time at 380 S 4th St, I witnessed ongoing retaliatory behavior toward tenants from management. -Management regularly sent building wide emails criticizing or shaming tenants who raised concerns or attempted to exercise tenant rights. -After a gas leak in the building, a tenant contacted the fire department for safety reasons. Management later blamed that tenant for the resulting gas shutoff and instructed residents not to contact emergency services in the future. -Service workers were allowed into apartments without proper notice or permission. I personally experienced two instances where workers entered while I was home without prior communication. -Management frequently dismissed tenant concerns and claimed tenants were “making up” rights that were explicitly outlined in the lease. -We ultimately had to involve legal services to mediate disputes with management. -Water shutoffs occurred regularly and often without warning. -The building was without gas service for approximately 6 months. -The super was kind, but many repairs appeared to be completed without sufficient maintenance experience and sometimes resulted in additional damage
Not bad but not amazing
Pros
- the super is good and keeps the space pretty clean - they manage the trash room well - packages are moved to package room to prevent package theft - monthly exterminators provided - right by the M
Cons
- not the most conveniently located - seems to have a bit of a roach issue - small, tight spaces - incredibly humid and hot in the apartments
