New Management, New Problems
Former Tenant
Pros:
The building is overall nice, with up to date/ refurbished apartments and cleanly hallways and common spaces. It’s in a beautiful and historic area, and the building also has historic roots.
Cons:
Management, management, MANAGEMENT. This building used to be owned by the sweetest Italian man and his family. I’m not sure if he sold the building to a management company or if he is using a 3rd party to take over the landlord’s duties (they literally never explained why this changed), but this new management company is the WORST. They are unresponsive, and incredibly unprofessional in the way they handle things. My old roommate moved out, and they didn’t give her security deposit back to her for 8 months, which is so beyond illegal and unacceptable. Additionally, “accounting” tried to lie and say that my new roommate didn’t pay for a specific month’s rent, when she literally did and we have the receipts that get sent to our emails, then when we challenged this they came back with a new excuse. It’s just really suspicious and at times illegal the way they handle things relating to rent and security deposits.

Whenever there is an issue, for example we went from seeing 2 cockroaches in a year and a half to suddenly seeing them throughout the building and 3 times within 2 weeks in our apartment. My roommate literally woke up with a massive cockroach CRAWLING ON HER BACK IN HER BED. We put in a maintenance request online using the appfolio system, and then they come back to us first saying that we needed to write this down on a piece of paper in the lobby. Like okay what was the point of filling out the entire request digitally? Also when I had filled the random sheet of paper out in the past, no one ever came. Then they got back to us after we repeatedly tried calling and texting and they told us that they would have someone come nearly a month later. I offered to pay to have someone come sooner if they deducted the cost out of my rent, and they just ignored me despite repeated attempts to follow up. It’s just really poorly managed, and I wish this building could go back to the days when it was managed by a small family and not this shell company that you can’t see or speak to easily.
Advice to owner:
Fire this management company if it’s 3rd party, or if this new company owns the building now: you guys absolutely suck and need to do better
