My Nightmare with Nieuw Amsterdam Property Management (and Why You Should Look Elsewhere)

Pros

Nothing, but a headache

Cons

I cannot overstate how profoundly negative my experience with Nieuw Amsterdam Property Management has been. Their level of unprofessionalism and incompetence is truly shocking, and I feel compelled to warn prospective tenants. Dealing with Nieuw Amsterdam means battling abysmal communication. Tickets vanish into the ether, and any attempt to get a resolution through higher channels is met with significant pushback, making it clear they'd rather you just give up. Specific individuals, notably Chay Brito and Gabriel Stone, embody this lack of professionalism. My direct interactions, especially with Ms. Brito, were consistently marked by a condescending and dismissive tone. Their inability to manage basic tenant concerns, provide timely responses, or communicate clearly speaks volumes about their fundamental deficiencies. And it's not just the management. The property itself was presented in substandard condition. Be prepared for potential pest control problems (specifically roaches) and poor maintenance standards, often masked by superficial paint jobs that hide deeper issues. Don't let an appealing location blind you. The stress, wasted hours, and absolute lack of support from Nieuw Amsterdam – and the frustrating interactions with Chay Brito and Gabriel Stone – will severely detract from your living experience. Please, for your own peace of mind, avoid them.

Chay Brito is the WORST Property Manager

Pros

There are two pros the cleaning staff and the fact it is close to the subway

Cons

Everything else. I complained about black mold, broken door, broken dryer, and it never got fixed. The property manager Chay Brito has "lost" payments even with proof of cash.

Advice to the owners

Get a property manager that actually does their job and not misplace their finances
