Our Lying Landlord
Pros
It was newly renovated when we moved in two years ago. New appliances, dishwasher, HUGE living room, a ton of natural light (sun roof over the kitchen). We loved the space.
Cons
Our landlord told us he wasn’t renewing the lease after 2 years because he “promised it to someone else.” After we rushed to find a new place to beat the competitive spring apartment hunting season, he then told us the person he promised it to probably couldn’t even pay the rent. We had offered to pay more when he asked us to leave! We were model tenants, always paid on time and kept the space nice. We can’t help but think he was lying and just wanted us out. The only reason we can think of as to why he wanted us out is because he discovered we’re gay (wlw/married). It’s not that we tried to hide it but we certainly didn’t offer up that info when we first rented the apartment due to him being religious. The move came out of left field so it had us extremely stressed and overwhelmed and he didn’t seem to care about the position he put us in at all. Funny considering he acted like he cared so much about our well-being while we were there. (Although not enough to ever fix the security cameras).
Advice to the owners
Dont let go of tenants who have ALWAYS paid rent on time and in full, who never complained about shoveling the snow or taking out all the trash/recycling, who went above and beyond to keep the space looking good.
