Warning! Atelier 635 W 42nd Street NYC
Pros
The building super is great. Despite the building’s lack of proper upkeep and maintenance of the apartments, Elmir would fix everything. The closets are the best! The kitchen sink has a garbage disposal. Nick, who handles all of the packages, was amazing. He was always consistently quick with sending out emails to notify residents of incoming packages. The doorman Paul was always professional and helpful.
Cons
Warning: the leasing agents show you a nice, updated apt but will rent you the same model but a different apt that is in terrible shape. When I rented my apt, the washer/dryer didn’t work, the shelves were filthy in the kitchen and closets, the wood floors were stained and splintered and the painter never painted the trims. After thoroughly cleaning the apt for days, it still wasn’t clean. I hired professionals and the apt still felt filthy. The kitchen counters had years of grime. The stovetop was in terrible shape and I rarely used it. I never used the oven so I have no idea if it worked. There are 46 floors , four elevators that are used for all the floors. Unfortunately, in the 12 months that I lived there, only two would be working consistently. One weekend, all four elevators were down and management wouldn’t let residents use the service elevator. Sabrina, the building manager, sent out an email the following Monday and blamed the residents! The rental apts are not updated, cabinets were in terrible shape, the grime and dirt was unremovable. Even the leasing agent admitted how awful the apt was. The gym is very small and out of four treadmills, two worked. They finally fixed the third. It is free for a reason.
Advice to the owners
Professionally paint and clean the apts. Sabrina needs to take classes in customer service. She is rude and nasty to residents. I have witnessed her being rude to residents. She also hires her family to work in the building so it creates a toxic environment for residents and employees.
Atelier Condo Apartments
Pros
I love the building and team that works at The Atelier! From the doormen, valet, Super, to the rest of the team they are very friendly and look out for you. The building is clean and quiet. I live on the 25th floor and don’t hear anything.
Cons
The only reason I’m moving is because of the lack of transportation that is reliable near the building. There is no subway stop close by so relying on the slowest bus M42 is not ideal.
Advice to the owners
Petition for a subway stop closer to 42nd and 12th Ave or demand that the M42 to be more reliable as well as a double bus vs single
