Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback on buildings managed by Robert Morgenstern reveals a mixed picture. While some locations benefit from excellent, central settings and good-sized apartments, persistent issues around maintenance and management responsiveness are common. Heating failures during winter and prolonged AC outages have caused significant discomfort, with some renters reporting pest problems and cleanliness concerns, particularly in garbage areas. Communication with management is often described as opaque and unresponsive, leading to tenant frustration. Additionally, some buildings show construction and upkeep shortcomings, contributing to doubts about value for money. Overall, renters advise potential tenants to approach cautiously due to inconsistent management and maintenance standards.

STAY FAR AWAY

Pros

Location is excellent- plenty of places to escape the terrible conditions in your apartment.

Cons

THERE WAS NO HEAT ALL WINTER AND MANAGEMENT DID NOT FIX IT! I never saw pest control come by which I found odd. Units are tiny (even by NYC standards) and overpriced. There's a reason why there's high tenant turnover.

Advice to the owners

If it's 10 degrees outside and there's no heat and it's 55 degrees in the apartment fix it ASAP. Do the job you're paid to do.

Don't move here if you don't have to

Pros

Location is very central and the apartments are a decent size.

Cons

- Management company is so strange. You never knew who to reach out to when you had a problem - never spoke to any of them on the phone. It's like a black box - so watch out for any Canvas buildings. - Heard multiple apartments had mice problems - and so did ours. They did manage it fairly well though. - Building is dirty - they NEVER clean it. The trash area was open to the outside, so sometimes when you would throw your trash away, big rats would scurry out - yikes! - Fridge in the apartment is comically small for 4 people to share - was always a jigsaw to grab anything out of there. - Looks nice on the surface level but you'll quickly find out everything was cheaply made, and they charge SO much for the crap. Floors were caving in, handles were just glued on. Our apartment's AC was broken for over 2 MONTHS! In the dead of summer during a heatwave. We had to kick and scream for them to do anything about it. - Just don't rent from this company - I'm begging you. Don't.

Advice to the owners

Please stop being a black box to your tenants.
