Overall fine for young professionals
Pros
It's a walkup with no doorman - only had strangers lingering in the hallways/lobby a couple of times, and they didn't cause a problem for me (young female). Pest control was fine with monthly visits from an exterminator they hired. My particular apartment had central air, which was a nice surprise in NYC where that's rare.
Cons
You had to go outside to do laundry - there was no rain coverage for a stretch, which sucked on bad weather days, of which New York has many. Some neighbors were too young/generally assholes - playing electric guitar with an amplifier at 1am, even when we would confront them it would devolve into yelling. But then other neighbors were wonderful and I met one of my best friends living next door! It's a young vibe, mainly 20 somethings and often sharehouse environments.
Advice to the owners
Honestly not much, they did alright.
Worth it for rent stabilized units
