Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants generally find Bernard Jacobowitz's buildings clean and well-maintained, with responsive management in many locations, especially at 505 Union Avenue and nearby Van Buren Street addresses. Positive features include attentive maintenance, pest control efforts, good neighbor relations, and useful amenities like roof decks and in-unit laundry. However, some tenants report noise issues near the train and parking garages, occasional pest problems, and inconsistent owner responsiveness, particularly in emergencies. Heating can be problematic in certain all-electric buildings, and rent increases are sometimes steep. Overall, residents appreciate the management’s efforts but suggest improvements in pest control and noise mitigation.

Quirky for Sure

Pros

This building is clean and very close to the train. Our unit also has a great roof deck!

Cons

This building has an unresponsive management company, can get quite loud because of its proximity to the train (the whole apartment rattles when it comes), and is supposedly new but has uninsulated windows everywhere. It's also all electric, including heat, so when we lost power for a few days, we also lost heat.

Loved our stay but have to make adjustments

Pros

'Private' rooftop area only accessible by top floor tenant Washer/dryer in unit Management was responsive Electronic payments

Cons

Rooftop area is connected to neighbouring buildings which isn't too safe Top floor room has full-length windows - set up curtains + make sure doors are all locked Staircase is more narrow than usual - make sure to check that your furniture can fit Subway can be kind of loud, no-go if you are sensitive to sound
