Avoid the Basement Units

Pros

The building is newly renovated with new appliances and nice finishes. It's pretty safe as well. They were very quick to change the locks when someone lost their keys. They also have in unit laundry which is a huge plus.

Cons

Street noise is a huge issue. It's surrounded by a ton of bars and people are on the streets until all hours of the morning, especially on the weekends. The basement units also had pest problems; I encountered centipedes and cockroaches, and my neighbor had rats in her walls. Building maintenance tried to brush us off and make us feel like we imagined the problem or had to deal with it on our own. I also had mold growing on one of the walls. I can't speak to the other units in the building that are above ground level.

Overall was good

Pros

Super was very responsive and helpful. Building was clean. Had no package theft.

Cons

Rats in the basement. Trash is kept in the basement. I have seen rats fly from the entrance of the building into a tiny crack in the exterior of the building. East Village is known for rats. Have seen rats scurrying around in the basement when dropping off trash

Advice to the owners

Trash in the basement should be kept in those closed metal containers.
