Avoid The Laurel – Poor Management and Maintenance Issues

Pros

Good Location and pet friendly

Cons

I strongly advise prospective residents to look elsewhere. What was once marketed as a luxury condominium has become a frustrating experience due to poor management, lack of maintenance, and dismissive handling of resident concerns. Major Issues: Serious Maintenance Problems – The building has ongoing issues with water leaks, poor insulation, and faulty plumbing. Maintenance requests are either ignored or take weeks (sometimes months) to be addressed, leading to damage and inconvenience for residents. Incompetent and Unresponsive Management – The building management team is unprofessional, dismissive, and more focused on covering up issues than resolving them. If you raise a legitimate concern, expect to be given the runaround. They prioritize their own convenience over resident well-being. Hidden Fees and High HOA Costs with Little to Show for It – The HOA fees are exorbitant, yet amenities are not well-maintained and fail to justify the cost. If you expect high-end service for what you're paying, you will be disappointed. Declining Building Standards – What was once a well-kept building has noticeably deteriorated. Hallways, common areas, and even private units suffer from poor upkeep and neglect. It no longer feels like the high-end residence it claims to be. Disregard for Residents' Comfort and Safety – Several residents, including myself, have reported serious safety concerns and disturbances that management fails to address properly. Whether it’s security issues or ongoing construction disturbances, their lack of accountability is a red flag. The Laurel is no longer worth the price tag. If you're considering moving in, I urge you to do your research, speak with current residents (not just the ones management puts forward), and think twice before committing. There are far better-managed luxury buildings in Manhattan that actually care about their residents.
