Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants in buildings managed by Shaul Kapelowitz appreciate spacious, rent-stabilized apartments and occasionally friendly neighbors. However, common issues include poor building maintenance, frequent elevator outages, pest infestations, mold, and unresolved leaks. Management is frequently described as unresponsive, with tenants often having to escalate problems to city agencies. Garbage management and cleanliness receive low marks, and there are concerns about unfair treatment of longtime residents. While superintendents are generally seen as hardworking but overstretched, management’s lack of timely communication and investment in infrastructure significantly detracts from the living experience. Overall, renters advise urgent improvements in maintenance and responsiveness.

It's not worth your health or peace of mind

Pros

It is spacious.

Cons

No communication, you will have to chase the super and property manager Izzy does not care. There is mold, they have a mice issue. They have leaks that are left unresolved for days going on weeks. It takes months to get any every issue resolved and they will get upset with you for asking for updates. It's really not worth it regardless of price and space. Please don't live there.

Advice to the owners

Quit Property Management. You can kill someone in these condition.

This building and their management are awful

Pros

The only good things are the size of the apartments and the price. That’s it.

Cons

To get anything fixed, you need to report them to 311 or it never gets done. Trash is everywhere. Tenants literally throw it outside of their windows and no one cleans it up. Cigarette smoke fills the halls and your apt. Groups of teenagers, adults and unhoused people hang out in the lobby. They drink, smoke and leave their garbage. The elevator rarely works, which leaves elderly tenants trapped or dangerously taking the stairs with canes. If you like mice, roaches, black mold, smoke, trash (even dirty diapers left in the hallway), this building is for you.

Advice to the owners

Fix things!!!! Replace the elevator, clean the place. It’s disgusting.
