Old building, but great neighbors

Pros

The people in the building are wonderful, quiet, and kind. This is the kind of street where people have lived here for generations, and we have been lucky to be apart of the community. The walls are thick and we can never hear our neighbors. Repairmen and maintenance men of the building are fantastic and do their best with the circumstances. Building is very pet friendly and there is no fee or limitations on dog sizes.

Cons

It is very apparent that the building is falling apart as several of my neighbors' ceilings have caved in, and that we are "lucky" to say that we only had water dripping from ours. When it flooded in 2023, our hot water was shut off for days and sewage water was filling our kitchen sink. There is no sunlight that reaches through the windows. We've had roach and mice infestations. The manager is very unresponsive and unhelpful.

Not Great

Pros

The neighbors are friendly and many have lived here a long time. Some of the units are relatively updated with decent appliances and it's conveniently located on a quiet street in Park Slope close to the R and FG trains.

Cons

The building is not taken care of AT ALL, there is no super available 24/7 and up until last fall there was a major rodent problem in the garbage area. The laundry in the basement is coin operated which is terribly inconvenient and the common stairs can sometimes go weeks without being swept or mopped. They're constantly getting sanitation violations for the garbage in the front of the building. It sticks out on a block with mostly brownstones and people who take care of their sidewalk areas.

Advice to the owners

Take better care of your buildings and hire a 24/7 on call super.
