Not worth the headache

Pros

I liked living in a building with only 10 units. My apartment is huge and has exposed brick, but that’s about all the “pros” of this building.

Cons

For starters, the building itself is not very well kept up with. Almost every single step has a rip in the carpet, there has been 1 (of 2) laundry machines out of service the entire time I’ve lived here, and there’s someone on the first floor smokes cigarettes in their apartment so the hallways ALWAYS wreak and it will linger into your unit. The washer and drier also barely clean and dry your clothes — they’re definitely really old units. Unless you specifically ask for something to get done, like cleaning the laundry room, the most I’ve seen done is the hallways being vacuumed (and only twice). Living in Hell’s Kitchen is very subjective, but the constant noise and having your train station be in Times Square got old very quickly.

Advice to the owners

Take care of your building and you will have tenants stay longer — and pay more. Get new washers and driers, re-do the carpet in the halls, and finish the roof. And make the building smoke free!
